IJISM is a scholarly journal covering information science and information management, including topics such as knowledge management, information systems, library and information science, scientometrics, information technology, and related emerging fields (e.g., AI, blockchain, cybersecurity as applied to information management). It is published by the Islamic World Science & Technology Monitoring and Citation Institute (ISC), based in Shiraz, Iran.
IJISM has been published continuously since 2003. It was originally issued by the Regional Information Center for Science and Technology, now known as the Islamic World Science and Technology Monitoring and Citation Institute (ISC), Shiraz, Iran.
IJISM was published every six months (semi-annually) from 2003 onward. Starting with Issue 1, Volume 20 (2022), the journal moved to a quarterly publication schedule due to the increased volume of submissions received worldwide.
No. IJISM is a fully open-access journal and does not charge any submission fees or Article Processing Charges (APCs). Publication is completely free for authors.
IJISM is indexed in major databases including Scopus, EBSCO, DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), and ISC (Islamic World Science & Technology Monitoring and Citation Institute). Published articles receive both DOI and DOR identifiers and are quickly indexed in these databases after publication.
All submissions are first screened for relevance to the journal’s aims and scope. Suitable manuscripts then undergo double-blind peer review by at least two external reviewers. Authors must submit both a full version and a blinded version of the manuscript. The average review time is approximately 6 weeks, and the overall process from submission to publication is typically around 12 weeks, depending on the revision cycles.
IJISM welcomes several article types, including:
- Research Articles (original research with new findings or methodologies)
- Review Articles (comprehensive literature reviews)
- Case Studies (detailed examinations of specific projects or cases)
- Methodological Papers (new research methods or tools)
- Interdisciplinary Studies
- Ethical and Legal Consideration papers (e.g., privacy, data governance)
- Papers on Technological Advances (AI, blockchain, cybersecurity, etc.)
- Educational Initiative papers (teaching and learning in information science/management)
Manuscripts must be written in English (American or British English is acceptable). The text should be clear, concise, and conform to standard English usage. Non-native English speakers are advised to seek professional language help if needed.
Authors may not reuse text from previously published papers or from manuscripts submitted elsewhere. IJISM follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines on plagiarism, and any credible evidence of plagiarism is handled according to COPE's flowcharts and procedures.
Yes. IJISM follows COPE guidance on AI use. AI tools cannot be listed as authors, since they do not meet authorship criteria. If AI or AI-assisted tools were used in preparing the manuscript, authors must:
- Disclose this in the cover letter at submission
- Explain how the AI tool was used in the "Materials and Methods" section
- Provide the AI tool's product details in the "Acknowledgments" section
Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, validity, and integrity of all content, including any AI-assisted material.
Authors must sign and submit an Author Consent Letter warranting that the article is original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Authors must also sign and upload a Copyright Transfer Agreement (Authorship, Conflict of Interest disclosure, and copyright file) during the submission process.
Yes. IJISM uses the COPE retraction flowchart to determine whether a published article should be retracted.
Manuscripts are submitted through the journal's online submission system on its website (ijism.isc.ac). After submission, a confirmation email is sent through the system to the corresponding author, and all further correspondence is directed to that author.
No. Articles and files received by the journal will not be returned to the author(s).
While the editorial office reserves the right to edit submitted manuscripts for compliance with journal style, the authors remain responsible for the published material in all cases.
